It seems like most people these days are in at least a little bit of debt. People are looking for ways to save money in all sorts of places. They are coming to find that there are a myriad of ways to save money that might be a bit out of the ordinary. Here is a look at a few of them.
Moving?
Moving to a new home is a big deal and there are a lot of ways that you can save money when you move. You can get free boxes from grocery and liquor stores and packing materials from dollar stores as opposed to paying higher prices for all of them at moving supply stores. You can also check prices and get a few quotes so that you can find the most economical moving company. If you will be moving yourself, you might find a friend who has a pickup truck as opposed to renting a truck. These are just a few of the ways that you can save money when you move to a new home.
Insurance
We all need insurance. Whether you know it or not, you can save money on your insurance. All you need to do is to go over your insurance coverage and make sure that you only have the insurance that you need and are not paying for things that you might not need. Having insurance itself also saves you money. This is because instead of paying for damages during things like auto accidents or damage to your home, the insurance company will take care of those things provided you have the coverage and are up to date with your premiums.
Vehicle
We all want our vehicle to be clean. The temptation to take it to a detail place can be great, but it can also cost a lot of money. Some places charge up to $100 to detail vehicles. You can save money by doing this yourself. It really doesn’t take much. You can even take it to one of those self – wash places to wash the outside and vacuum the inside. Even doing that only costs a few dollars. Aside from having a clean, good looking car when you finish, you will also have a bit more money in your pocket.
Paid Subscriptions
Many of us seem to be cutting the cord when it comes to cable. It is so easy with all of the paid subscription services that are available. We might even have quite a few of those services along with cable and that is just not necessary at all. Aside from that, we don’t always watch those channels, so why should we be paying for them? Yes, the $9.99 a month might seem like a small price to pay, but it can add up when you have 15 of those services. Take a good look at what you actually watch and get rid of the rest.
Don’t Miss Flyers
You know the ones – they get shoved in your mailbox, thrown in your yard with the paper, or even stuck on your doorknob. The thing is, you no longer need to spend the time and energy going through each and every one of them to find a deal. There are now apps that can do it for you. One of them is called Flipp. All you do is enter your zip code and you will instantly have access to all of the local ads right on your tablet or phone. You can even search for specific items if you want.
Emotional Spending
We all know that we shouldn’t go grocery shopping when we are hungry. The reason for that is that you will be more likely to overspend in order to satiate your hunger. The same thing holds true when you are emotional about something. A new pair of shoes will not heal your wounds, but it can be that much easier to buy them if you just experienced a breakup. If you are emotional, try to leave your credit or debit card at home. There are so many better ways that you can vent your feelings.
When we moved to our current place, we asked a friend to help, for free. In return, we also helped him move a couple year later 😀 It’s not the most pleasant easy to spend time with friends, but helping eachother for free is one of the perks of having great friends. A moving company would have cost us a few hundred bucks.
