If you have followed your progress towards financial independence, you have seen your passive income grow little by little, to reach $5 a month, $10 a month, and so on. Everyone has passive income, the least being a savings account giving you $1 or $2 per month in interest. Looking at that number grow as you save more, invest more and live with less, is gratifying.
And then, after years of efforts, decades maybe, you reach your goal: that tipping point where your passive income equals your monthly expenses.
Meaning that if all things stay the same, you don’t need to work for a living anymore. Your income pays your rent, your food, your gas, your leisure and holidays. How cool is that!?
This is my ultimate goal with my finances. Not having to work for the money. I don’t think I would stop working totally. But I would be able to find a part time job, maybe volunteer somewhere, and do something that is significant for me. My paycheck, if any, would not matter. My boss would not have any negative impact on me, because the day I don’t come to work with a smile, I can stop coming at all and not worry about my rent being paid.
