Looking for the perfect place to take your kids for spring break, but aren’t sure how to do it on a budget? Believe it or not, there are a lot of popular destinations across the country that you and your family could travel to for pennies on the dollar. You simply have to know where to go, what to look for, and how to find the best savings.
Case in point, Legoland is a thrilling family vacation destination. Though it may seem like it would cost an arm and a leg to travel to Carlsbad, CA near San Diego, the truth is it doesn’t have to. Check out these tips for an affordable family trip below:
Stay Off-Site
It might be tempting to reserve a room for your family at the Legoland Hotel located just a few steps away from the theme park’s entrance, but you’re going to spend a ton of money doing it. Instead, try finding a hotel that is located near the park and you could save several hundred dollars a night and get accommodations that are just as comfortable and convenient. Simply search Carlsbad, CA hotels and compare prices of nearby accommodations.
Look for Deals on Admission
Every parent knows that admission tickets to a theme park are often very costly per person. If you’d like to experience the thrill without breaking the bank, do some research to find deals on tickets. Buying your tickets online will shave a few bucks off buying once you arrive. You can also subscribe to the Lego Magazine for kids which usually has free or discounted tickets for kids with the purchase of an adult ticket. You should also check to see if you can get discounts due to school, military status, or other affiliations.
Bring Your Own Food
Buying food at a popular theme park is going to cost a lot. Though the food is good if you’re trying to stay on a budget, you’ll want to conserve here. Bringing your own food is actually very common and affordable. You can pack sandwiches and other healthy snacks. When the kids get hungry, you can take a park break and head out to the parking lot where there are a lot of nice places to have a quick picnic. You can also take bottled water and light snacks in a purse or bag inside the park in case the kids get hungry.
Skip Pay to Play Games
Throughout the theme park, you’ll notice that there are tons of carnival games for the family to indulge in. Though the kids will get prizes, these games aren’t free and dip into your budget. It’s best to skip those carnival games. If the family wants to enjoy mini golf or some other game, it may be a lot cheaper to look for such events in a nearby location.
Enjoy the Rest of Carlsbad
Legoland may be the reason you and your family are venturing out to Carlsbad, CA, but there are a lot of other parts of the city you can enjoy for cheap! Go enjoy some of the area’s lovely beaches, go for a hike through nearby parks, or explore area shops, museums, and other attractions.
Whether you’re traveling with toddlers or school-aged children, Legoland California is a great destination. Fun rides, cool displays, amazing shows, and miles of adventure lies ahead. You’ll have a blast creating memories with your kids and getting to learn more about everyone’s favorite childhood toys! The best part about it all is you can do it without digging too deep into your pockets.

Groupon is always filled with lots of good deals on fun activities like these! I agree packing a lunch and bringing it to sit out in the car and eat will save LOTS of money, and as we all know, saving money is always a fabulous idea!

Me and my cousins went to Legoland, Malaysia last last year, and we were having trouble as to where we can eat since most of the food stalls and restaurants there are very pricey. We didn’t know that it was okay to bring our own food. 🙁 Nonetheless, thank you for this information! Will definitely do the tips you have pointed out here when we go back to Legoland next year! 🙂
