Long time no blog! I am using this time of quarantine as a way to get reacquainted with the wonderful habit of journaling and blogging with a first person voice, keeping you and me entertained in the process. You may feel like you have missed a few episodes, or rather a whole season! I will try to catch up as we go. In the meanwhile, stay safe and wash your hands 🙂
We have been locked up for almost two months here in California. A place known for its high cost of living, especially when it comes to rent.
So with a lot of people not working for two months, I was expecting a 1929 vibe, people begging for jobs basically, resorting to depression era thrift like dumpster diving and cycling to work.
Well I couldn’t be more wrong. Right now people are eating out, or rather taking out, with lines I’ve never seen, they’re on the beach, apparently coming from far away because the other RV parks I called in case we needed a backup plan told me they’d be at full capacity next month, and so on.
I have been trying to find a contractor to install a mini split AC unit in the RV for several weeks now. There is a website where they tell you the job should cost that much, you prepay, and then they send you a contractor, like a TaskRabbit kind of site.
Well their “pros” kept canceling, rescheduling, and the two who showed up couldn’t do the job. I thought people would be fighting for gigs, but apparently, home improvement is booming too, since it’s one of the few things you can do from home.
I am waiting for like the fifth “pro” to show up, and not really holding my breath.
This whole thing makes no sense. We’re printing money like it’s free, millions are unemployed, and nothing is happening. No market crash, no crazy currency devaluation, just a happy summer camp for everyone until they go back to work.
I am very aware some families are struggling because they don’t have savings and can’t claim unemployment, but around here, it doesn’t seem like the norm.
My husband has been setting aside some money in case real estate prices go down, to maybe look at rentals, but same thing, it’s like the bubble won’t burst for now.
Oh well, if I can’t find a guy to install my AC we might give it a shot over the long weekend.
