When I first thought about starting an online business, the most overwhelming aspect of it was technical. Sure, we had had a quick class ten years ago in college about how to create a website, but ten years is like ten centuries in web years, and I was rusty for sure. I only knew how to make sites with a software that took hours to modify the simplest thing. Nowadays, if you want to give online entrepreneurship a go, nothing is easier.
You may be familiar already with the website building platform called Wix, which allows you to create a website easily with no web design or technical skills. You simply pick a template you like, then start editing it with the specs of your own website, adding your pictures to the background, clicking on any button you with to edit, and there you go! In a few clicks, you can have a simple, clean and properly coded website.
As many of the designs are pre-set for a certain kind of business, for example a hotel, a restaurant, a law firm or a charity, it makes it really easy to adjust the template to your needs quickly, instead of starting from a blank page where you have to do all the adjustments yourself. For example, a hotel page template will already have a booking widget with a calendar taking you to availabilities, when that can be pretty complicated to code when starting from scratch.
For an extra fee, Wix allows you to choose more advanced features, such as getting your own URL, unlimited bandwidth or more storage, and removing the Wix ads on the website. But for most, you can get going with the free version, then as you grow decide whether you want to get something more powerful. The important thing is to get your online presence as soon as possible, and when starting a business, budgets may be tight, so you can make sure customers can reach you and know who you are, then as business gets rolling, update to a more suitable website.
If you are selling products to customers however, you may want to have a look directly at the eCommerce platform offered by Wix. The same way you can create a website presenting your company, you can create an online store in just a few clicks, with no particular technical skills. Again, you get to choose a basic template, then fill it to suit your needs.
Once your store is up and running online, thanks to the eCommerce platform, you can do everything in one place, saving you time and making your business much more efficient. You can track your last orders and have a look at your current inventory, manage sales and promotions as well as shipping and taxes for every delivery destination.
But most importantly, you can manage your payments with no commission on sales.
That means your website will accept PayPal and credit card payments, making it easier for your customers to have a quick checkout and a safe online buying experience. On your side, that is a big money saver as a bespoke eCommerce payment platform could cost you a lot of money.
Wix eCommerce platform is also mobile and tablet friendly, and will adapt to any support your customers may be browsing from.
To try it out, I looked at that bio beauty products website.
It looks really clean and functional, perfect if you are starting out with a line of beauty products, although it could also fit a small line of gourmet foods for example. Wix guides you in every step of the creation, for example to edit the About page, I just had to click on the menu from the homepage, and it took me over there to edit and fill in my details.
See? Super easy. It tells you to edit the paragraph and input your personal information and more details about your company and services.
Once you have filled all that, it is time to go over to the My Store section to fill in your store details.
Again, it is all pretty straightforward as Wix asks you to put in pictures of the products, prices, stocks so you can track your inventory, shipping terms and conditions, and so on. You can link your Wix account with your PayPal account to start accepting payments, as well as Wirecard and Stripe, two credit card processors, so you can take credit cards as well. You can enter your business terms and conditions, privacy policy, refund or cancellation policy, etc.
The most attractive thing about Wix eCommerce platform is probably that you can do it all on your own. Not only are you saving a ton of money avoiding graphic designers and webmasters, but you also can keep control of your website at all times. Before that, when you wanted to add a promotion, or start accepting a new coupon, you had to ask your webmaster to code that in for you, and remember to have them delete it at the end of the promotion period. Now you can update your inventory, prices and all other settings as you please, and the changes will immediately be reflected on your website.
