Dental care has always been expensive in the US. Sadly, there is not a lot you can do about it if you expect market forces to intervene. You will have to go out of our way to save money on your implants. We’re going to show you some smart, thrifty ways to save money on dental implants.
Get a Quote
Shop around and get quotes from multiple dentists. You would be surprised at how much implant costs can differ between dentists. This applies not just to the procedure but also to the insurance. Look around and spend an afternoon going through quotes. There are no benefits to loyalty when it comes to dental care.
Schools of Dentistry
Low-income individuals have a great option for cheap dental care. Approach a school of dentistry and have your dental care done at less than half the price as a normal private dentist. In the US, every dentist has to intern at a school of dentistry in order to open their own practice. They need members of the public to deliver care to. There’s nearly always a waiting list, though, so be prepared to wait.
Travel Abroad
Medical tourism is becoming increasingly common as the American care system continues to rip people off. You can pay over four grand in the US, or you can go to India or Turkey and get the same implant for a quarter of the price. You may think there’s something fishy about this, but there’s not. The dentists are all trained and licensed. More and more people are looking into combining a vacation they would have taken anyway with dental care.
Financing Options
Many dentists realize that huge numbers of people can’t afford to get dental care while paying out of their own pockets. This is why they have teamed up with third-party lenders to offer financing options. You are essentially taking out a loan and paying for your dental care over time. In the long-term, you will pay more than you need to, but if you can only afford to pay a small amount per week this is a perfect option.
Look at Insurance Coverage
Insurers generally won’t cover dental implants because they’re considered a cosmetic item. Nevertheless, if you’re in the minority of people who can’t chew without experiencing pain, you may qualify for dental implants under your current insurance policy. Consult your dentist, as they will know best whether you will qualify under your policy’s terms. You may want to get several dental insurance quotes to find out exactly what they cover and don’t cover.
Discount Plans
Finally, many dentists offer discount plans for patients. These work through either dental companies or third-party insurers. You sign up for a plan and pay an annual fee. Every time you need a procedure, you can claim the money back through the fund. Just make sure that your dentist accepts discount plans and your plan covers dental implants.
Conclusion
As you can see, there are many thrifty ways to save money on dental implants. If you do your research, there’s no reason why you can’t save a lot of money going forward.
Tyler Meredith says
I like what this article mentions about getting multiple quotes. I think this would be a great way to know what to expect to pay for the implants. I think that quotes and financing options would be a great way to be able to get the procedure done, without too much immediate impact to finances. Thanks for sharing, I’ll definitely have to keep this in mind.

This is all great advice! Dental work can get costly, but that doesn’t make it any less crucial, so it’s important to find the dentist that works for you! Awesome post! Thanks so much for posting!

Great tips and share..
Implants are rarely covered by insurance as it is quitely process. Generally Practitioners charge $3,000 to $4,500 for a single tooth. Most dentists refer patients to oral surgeons, periodontists, or prosthodontists.
If you need an implant near a nerve or sinus cavity, it’s worth paying for a dentist or surgeon who has specialized training
Jorge McMillan says
I need to get some dental implants after loosing some teeth in my last rugby game. The problem I’m facing right now and something that I’m surprised about, like you mentioned, is how expensive they are. This helped me know what to do to avoid heavy prices and I hope that I can figure this all out.
Bakerig says
Insurers generally won’t cover dental implants because they’re considered a cosmetic. You can search online to get several dental insurance quotes to find out exactly what they cover and don’t cover. You can contact to insurance agent regarding this to make a wise decision.
I agree with Taylor, practitioners charge $3,000 to $4,500 for a single tooth and most dentists refer patients to oral surgeons. Consulting a surgeon would be the best option.
Friedman says
These are all great ways to save money on dental implants except for the travelling abroad. That is misinformation, their are thousands of horror stories from people thinking that going to India or Mexico for cheap dental implants was a good idea. It just is not safe to go to another country and get a procedure like dental implants completed by someone who got their license in a 2 week course.
The best option if you are in need of dental implants but want to save money is the number one on this list, Schools for Dentistry. They will give you relatively the same prices as going abroad, but there is accountability for the work that you have done.
larissa says
I have traveled abroad for my cosmetic dental surgery and everything turned out better than expected! I actually have had work done in both the US and overseas and I believe the skill and talent of the doctors are just as great if not better than the US- at a better price. THanks for sharing!

Searching for discount plans and checking your insurance coverage in detail are important toward saving on this procedure, just as you shared. Shopping around can benefit consumers as well.
Brian says

I like how you suggested contacting your insurance company to see if dental implants would be covered. I had one of my teeth extracted, and I’ve been having some issues with pain when chewing because of it. I want to have the gap filled so I don’t have to worry about that anymore, but I want to try and save as much money as possible on this. Even though insurance doesn’t usually cover implants, maybe I could contact them just to double check and see if that would be an option for me.

Great article. Going abroad is a great option for people who don’t have dental insurance. Just make sure you do research on the dr and clinic first. Most of them have had great training and just like anything else, skill comes with practice. Consider the savings going towards an extended vacation. I’m not sure if you know exactly how dental implants are placed but I don’t think I’d be trying to cut any corners! I got my dental implants in Richmond, VT last year after talking to various Richmond dentists. They explained how important the placement of the titanium posts were for the longevity of the implants and how bad any errors could be. I decided to go with implant-supported-dentures, which was far cheaper than individual implants and I couldn’t be happier. Make sure you trust in an experienced, knowledgeable and educated dentist for your implants.

I would definitely suggest getting multiple quotes and looking to some financing options. I recently got dental implants in Austin after visiting about 7 different dental practices, each one gave me different pricing and a different sales pitch, however I went with the Austin implant dentist I felt most comfortable with. I do not miss my dentures one bit and my Austin dental implants were the best dental decision I think I’ve ever made! I can speak better, I look better and I can even eat my favorite foods again!

These are some really awesome tips I wish I had before I started my Pearland, TX dental implant journey! It took me about 8 months to finally pick a dentist, after reading reviews, calling dental practices and asking as many questions as possible. After awhile I found a implant dentist in Pearland who offered me a consultation and even had discounts on dental implants! They did a great job of explaining everything and I truly believe dental implants were the best decision I could have made. I look better, speak better and can even eat corn on the cob again!

When it comes to implant dentistry, I’d trust in a dentist locally! My first dental implants were done in Mexico, and while I saved a whole lot of money in the beginning, once I was back in Pasadena, TX I started having all sorts of problems. Luckily I found a wonderful implant dentist in Pasadena to correct my problems and actually place a few more dental implants. I ended up paying more for my dentist in Pasadena, TX however I’ve had much less problems and nowhere near the amount of necessary follow-up appointments. You really get what you pay for, just remember that!

Saving money on dental implants is something I’ve been thinking about since a long time. Well, your points a really well-thought-of and I loved the travel abroad one. Surely these days medical tourism is picking momentum to a great extent but travelling for something related to dental problems is not the smart thing to do. Finance and insurance is a good option but again, they won’t cover implants. I visited my dentist at Wyndam Dental Care in Ajax, ON a few months ago and he advised me on a better way to save money – he said, Keep good oral care and you’ll save a lot of money. 🙂

Depending on wherever you live in the US, a great alternative is preparing your work done in Mexico. You can both drive or fly and give it a dental holiday. In towns all on the border, Mexican dentists offer their services. Because expenses and labor costs are much lower in Mexico, a Mexican dental expert can give prices that are 40-60% lower than in the US.

I know how much these implants cost – I got ripped apart in 2 of these, and I do not know how the rest 4 will be done. Basically, I don’t want to go homeless.
This blog however looks like some information well provided and the many ways that can be used to save on some treatment cost. However, I am not really sure with the idea of travelling abroad because then it all boils down to the same amount (mostly).

Hey Pauline,
These are some great insights. And looking for a insurace option can really help in saving money. There’s one more way to save money while going for a dental procedure is that you can look for is asking the clinic about their financing option i.e., whether they accept any card like CareCredit card. CareCredit© functions just like an ordinary credit card, but excludes soaring interest rates or other heavy penalties.
