This post is part of a 30 days series called the 30 steps program to financial independence. You can check the list of other posts here.
We all have a dream. A dream of what life would be like if we didn’t have to work for the money. Or work at all. What would you do? Go fishing, spend time with your family, volunteer?
I dream a lot about what my life would be like. Strangely, I never dream about having lots and lots of money, or a huge mansion or a fancy car. I dream about a simple life, full of activities and relationships with family and friends.
Sometimes I picture myself in the countryside, harvesting my vegetables and making my own cheese, fixing up a house and maybe starting a bed and breakfast for travelers passing by. At other times, I am living the Parisian life, and when I am not in Paris, I am jetting around the world, from NY to some secret beaches in the Caribbean. I think my financially independent life will be somewhere in between.
Because I would like to have a family and kids, I will have to slow down on the traveling and find a place to settle down. At the moment I can’t afford to buy anything remotely near Paris or any big town. It would have to be a rural location, if I still want to enjoy the rest of my savings to travel around and not have to work.
So here you are, giving up your job and ready to live your dream life. Congratulations! It has certainly take years of hard work and dedication but it was worth it right?
I am not there yet, but I am on my way. I already have some freedom, and a bit of passive income, that allows me to work way less than most people.
This situation is already enjoyable as it is.
It will be even better when passive income can cover all my expenses! This is the ultimate step. Once you are financially independent, you can do what is really important for you, things you love and are truly passionate about.
That goal or point in life can be really far for you, but if you want to reach it with all your heart, you will eventually get there.
