Not much to say today about life, it is business as usual, the workers are still around but it should be their last week. BF is away so I have been working on the blog, he was complaining I spend too much time online so I am hoping to make some progress until he gets back.

On blogging news, I did a lot of little things on the blog, starting by putting up the new logo I had delivered about a week ago. Slowly but surely taking steps to fight procrastination! Miss T was the only one to notice, so I guess it is harmoniously integrated within the theme… I am also trying out ad banners in a way to reach my financial goal of 25 times more blog income in 2013!

I want to thank everyone who came to the rescue about my font problem when copy pasting from Word to WordPress, and in particular Average Joe, who is the reason why this blog should have a decent font from now on. He suggested I use Windows Live Writer, which allows you to write your posts offline and they upload to your blog, and that is really neat if you have a crappy internet provider.

Edward offered a solution to link WordPress to Word, but you need a recent version of Word to do so. With Live Writer, you can download it online for free and get going. The features include category setting, tags, pictures, etc… and everything will be uploaded to your blog, as a post or a draft if you want to add some other stuff with WP plugins. The feature I really, REALLY love is when you want to add a link you copied from somewhere, you just have to select an anchor, CTRL+K, and by default the content of your clipboard will be pasted and linked. It should save a lot of time. Thank you Joe!

Another change that I have been thinking about for a while is link love. I read tons of articles every week and want to give them a little light on the blog, if you haven’t noticed I often link to other bloggers within my articles and try to mention posts that relate to my topics so my link love is shorter on Friday.

Still there are many cool reads so I will publish a 6th post on Saturdays called Carnival of Financial Independence. I have registered it on Blogger Carnivals so starting next week, you will be able to go there and submit any post that is relevant to your financial journey, simple living, investment and progress towards financial independence.

I am hoping that the carnival submissions will help me notice posts from new blogs, since I am getting comfy with the usual suspects, and need to explore more, but while things are getting started, I will chose a few articles who did not submit if the carnival is too thin.

Stay tuned tomorrow for some great posts!

I published four posts this week

Try change! It is good!

  1. Hey Pauline, I did notice the new logo actually, very nice! That sounds like a great Idea hosting a carnival, I’ll have to look into that. Have a great weekend!

  5. I noticed the new logo and I think it looks great, I just didn’t comment about it – Sorry.

I also feel like I am spending way too much time on the same blogs and not really exploring as much as I did 3-4 months ago.

The banners that do the best for me (adsense anyway) is the rectangular one. It generates way more clicks than any of the others.

  6. Looks like I am in the same chorus of people who noticed the new logo and did not say anything. ;) It does look great and I like how it goes with the site. I love the Carnival idea! I had been approached to do one a month or so ago and just did not want to take it on right now. I know what you mean about the “usual suspects”, I’ve started adding in newer (to me) blogs the last two weeks as a means to fight against it. Joe had told me about Live Writer and I’ve been bad and not checked it out, I do need to though. Have a great weekend Pauline!

  7. Oooh, is there a mac version of Windows Live Writer? It sounds cool!
The wordpress online GUI has been randomly inserting style tags into my posts lately and it’s a total PITA to go in manually and take them all out.

  8. I too noticed the new logo, but failed to mention anything. I think it’s a perfect fit for you and your site. The carnival idea is great. I need to start submitting to them again. I’ve gotten a bit sidetracked trying to grow the blog and change the layout.
I can relate with spending too much time on the site. Mrs. Frugal Path feels neglected sometimes and I have to remember to spend time with her as well. Have a great weekend and don’t spend too much time on the site.

  9. Great update Pauline. You and I are on the same page. I am creating a carnival that I will be starting soon after I get my new website design live. I will be posting it on Sundays in order to keep my schedule that I have going. I will be sure to submit to your great carnival. I noticed the new logo, but just forgot to mention it.

  11. I also noticed the new logo and many times said in my head to say something but I forgot every time we chatted, oops! It looks lovely mate and ties in well with your blog. Like you I’m moving forward with my site I think I mentioned it in a post the other day. I want to learn more about other writers around the web as it’s like a kid in a candy store! P.S I tried guacamole pasta… gotta try it!!

  13. Like everyone else, I DID notice the new logo earlier this week and I think it really suits your blog :) Another carnival to submit to is exciting! My BF never complains about the amount of time I’m online because he is twice as bad as me lol ;)
Have a wonderful weekend Pauline :)

  14. Your blog has a logo? Guess it is one of the many things that are blocked by my jobs internet firewall. Go figure. I’m sure it is really nice if I could see it!

  15. I had a week opposite to yours :) I didn’t get any blog work done, mostly scrambling to finalize our move, continue packing, finding an apartment in the new city… moving is exhausting.

+1 for Windows Live Writer. WLW and Evernote makes my life a lot easier.

  17. Yeah, I noticed it too but by the time I read the post, I’ve moved my mind onto another topic. It looks really good. I never remember to submit to carnivals, but maybe I’ll remember this one. I also need to keep finding new sites to visit. Always something to do! Have a great weekend!

    • not enough hours in the day! I am really bad with carnival submissions too, but will try to submit on Thursday from now on, most are over the weekend or Monday/Tuesday.

  18. Thanks for the mention. Glad you were able to get something working to make it easier for you to post.

  19. Glad you’re getting the better of your procrastination Pauline – hope my tips helped a bit ;-)

Thank you again for the mention in this post, it is soooo appreciated from a ‘do follow’ perspective.

I’m learning so much from your example here. I was entirely ignorant of ‘blog carnivals’ until reading your post. I’m having a hard time getting my head around this new social web stuff; but although I’m still stuck in old ways, with your example it’s slowly perculating through into my awareness.

The clean new logo looks great and you’ve made a massive improvement to the header layout.

Have a great weekend; hope you don’t spend it all working. I find ear plugs are great for drowning out complaining :-)

    • thank you Gareth, glad you liked the logo. Carnivals are a way to get your posts noticed, you can check lists of carnivals on bloggercarnivals.com or blogcarnivalhq.com, they all have different themes so you can submit different posts.
You get your post to be featured on another blog, and they usually require that you mention your carnival appearance on your too.
I was just as confused as you were a few months back! Have a nice weekend.
