Friday recap, early rising and a hatching hen

Hi and welcome to the Friday recap! I hope your week went well. Remember you can win $1000 cash thanks to that awesome giveaway, good luck!

Life news

Life is pretty slow at the moment. I am enjoying having the house back to myself after having about 20 guests in two weeks. But since most of you are deep in snow, I am sure I can find some entertaining stuff and a ray of sun for you. The works are almost finished on the new room’s walls.

Work in progress

Work in progress

We found some interesting stones that we tried to highlight, and are overall very happy with the progress. Except that I get awaken every day around 630am with Gagnam Style cranked up on the workers’ cellphones. Is there any Gangnam Style-free country? North Korea maybe?

I also got to start on the 90 acres development’s website and am starting the works on Monday with the architect. And even received an inquiry out of the blue to rent our house over Easter! Since the new room will be finished I am pretty sure we will be ready to rent, or would go traveling ourselves. Yay for a holiday paid by that temporary rental!!

I know many are anxious to know how Rocky Balboa, the fighting turkey rescued from Christmas is faring among the hens, well he is behaving politely now, not looking to fight anymore, and seems more in love with BF every day. The hens are laying 3-4 eggs a day which is nice but we are still mostly buying eggs and yesterday the first hen has been seating over the eggs!! I was wondering how long it would take for one of them to do it and if the eggs would go bad by laying there with no hen on top so results in three weeks, we should get a few chickens!

Blogging news

Traffic is up since the holidays, and I notice a few new faces around here, welcome everyone, make yourselves at home. I am very happy to have you. I am still keeping up with the 5000 words per week Yakezie challenge but as I write for other sites too only half has been for RFI this week. My 4 posts were

  3. I just love the pics of your place! Seriously is fun to see the progress, even though I am jealous of your lack of snow ;) I also have been doing some fairly lengthy blog posts, not sure if I have been hitting 5k words/week, though. I have also seen traffic increase since the holidays (I checked for the first time in two weeks yesterday!). Hope you have a great weekend!

    • We have 2 eggs each for breakfast plus the occasional one for cooking and baking. At the moment we leave them all inside hoping for chickens, only when we run out do we eat our eggs. Then we hope to keep half to eat half to hatch.

  7. Thanks for the mention. I tried to get into the Money Crashers list last year, but they don’t allow sub-domains. Now that I have my own, I’m still waiting to be included.

    • This whole animal thing has been a lot of fun, I hope a few chickens get out of the eggs, and I can see them crack the shell! Not as exciting as what you’ll see soon but still fun!

  13. Glad you got an inquiry already about the place. Hope you get some chickens soon. Have a great weekend!

20 guests – wow that’s heaps. We’ve had five, and I too am enjoying the quiet now. We have a bit of a break and then more visitors arriving soon.

  15. That would be awesome once the eggs hatch. More chickens means more eggs. Trying to buy free range eggs in my area is expensive and sometimes hard to find. Raising chickens sounds like fun. Thanks for the mention, and congrats on the ranking :D

  17. Congrats on the ranking and the chickens. I’ve always thought that raising animals would be so neat. I don’t think I’d ever be able to eat an animal I raised, so they’d all be old retired animals at some point ;-)

    • Thanks KK, I think I like them too much to butcher them but I really want to, or be a vegetarian. I think it is coward to eat other meats and not the ones you raise. But so far I am completely unable to do what I preach!
